Regarding philosophy, I am particularly drawn to theory that examines differentiated processes of naturalizing, normalizing, normatizing and idealizing. These processes are often perceived to be innocuous, but I have always been interested in how heavily these ‘leaps’ influence our positioning in the world. I tend to take systematic approaches to analysis – usually beginning with locating particular phenomena in “philosophical neighborhoods” and then interchanging different lenses or perspectives to search for more nuanced explanations or balance in perspectives. Much of my work is interdisciplinary and can be located in organizational politics and cultural studies, concentrating on critical approaches to real-world problems such as race, gender, sexuality, sexual practice, identity and personhood. I also work with graduate students who need support in their research and writing endeavors.
