Tejas is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (the only male licensed clinical psychologist in Mumbai). He is a passionate Mental Health Professional and provides trauma informed care. He is a Social Justice and Queer Affirmative Practitioner and has several years of experience as an Individual, Group, Couples and Family Therapist. He specializes in running Support Groups and also provides Clinical Supervision to other mental health professionals.
Apart from the prestigious M.Phil in Clinical Psychology (RCI) he holds a Degree in Law (LL.B, Gen), Masters in Psychology (MSc. Psy) and Masters in Philosophy (MA. Philo) and practices Clinical Philosophy also known as Philosophical Practice, he is a Certified Philosophical Counselor and an Adjunct Member of American Philosophical Practitioners Association and hosts Philosophical Cafes and Socratic Dialogues in Group Processes addressing philosophical problems related to matters such as mid-life crises, career changes, stress, ethical dilemmas, emotions, assertiveness, physical illness, death and dying, aging, meaning and purpose of life, power and justice, loss, love, loneliness, and morality.
Tejas provides psychotherapy services online over zoom to people of Indian origin who have settled abroad, he has catered to clients from America, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Netherlands, etc. and to people from all over India especially to patients from Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Pune and Nagpur.
He is trained in Couples and Family Therapy (CFT) from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore. He is trained in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) by the founder Dr. Sue Johnson. He is trained and certified in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety, Depression and Personality Disorders from Beck Institute, Philadelphia, USA and has completed Primary, Advance and Associate Practicum in Rational Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RECBT) from the esteemed Albert Ellis Institute, New York, USA. He got his Certifications in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for Depression and Anxiety from Dr. Harris, USA and received his Certificate in Queer Affirmative Counseling Practice (QACP) from MHI, Mumbai. He has Transactional Analysis (TA101) Certification from the ITAA, USA and has received Masters training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) from Solutions Centre, Netherlands. He is trained in Motivational Interviewing (MI) from the founder Dr. William Miller and trained in Narrative Therapy from The Dulwitch Center, Adelaide, Australia. He holds a Diploma in Community Mental Health and Certificate in Perinatal Mental Health both from NIMHANS. Tejas is trained in Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT) from one of its founder Anthony Bateman. He is engaged in extensive Group Analysis training from Institute of Group Analysis, UK and is engaged in Psychoanalytical Observation Studies and clinical training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (based on Tavistock Institute, UK‘s two years masters program) from Psychoanalytic Therapy and Research Centre (PTRC) affiliated to International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA), USA. He is engaged in Intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP) training from ISTDP, Washington, USA. He is a member of India Jung Center which is affiliated to International Association for Analytical Psychology (IAAP), Zurich, Switzerland. He is a Professional Member of Association for Contextual Behavioural Science (ACBS), USA and he is an International Affiliate Member of the prestigious American Psychological Association (APA), USA.
His integrated psychotherapy practice is informed by evidence-based rational emotive (REBT) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), existential-humanistic/person-centered approach, clinical hypnosis, motivational interviewing (MI), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), existential logotherapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, intensive short-term dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP), mentalization based therapy (MBT), transactional analysis (TA), schema therapy, systemic family and couples therapy, post-modern approaches such as solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), narrative ideas and practices, LGBTQIA+ queer affirmative therapy, feminist practice, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy and mindfulness based practices and provides therapy in Mumbai, India and Online.
With his unique blend of skills he understands and facilitates clients to externalize and overcome low mood, depression, loneliness, anxiety, anger, trauma, phobias, body image issues, feelings of guilt, and ideas of worthlessness, hopelessness and helplessness. He works with his clients with a goal-directed approach in reducing distress, encourages better functioning and collaborates in problem-solving.
His areas of specialization include individual psychotherapy and family and couples therapy for clients diagnosed with Clinical Depression, Anxiety Disorders, OCD and Adjustment Disorders, Substance Abuse Disorder, resolving Marital Conflicts and Overcoming Mental, Physical and Sexual Abuse for adults and children. His practice is informed by systems theory and thinking and is sensitive to distress arising due to social, cultural and economic structural oppression and marginalization. He also works with children and adolescents with ADHD, Autism, Intellectual Disability and Emotional and Behavioral problems. He is trained to deal specifically with complex clinical conditions such as Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Stress-Related Dissociative Disorders, and Personality Disorders.
While working extensively with both children and adults in public and private hospitals, he has conducted various workshops for schools and colleges as a clinical and child psychologist and has successfully delivered lectures at various national & international conferences and seminars. He is a clinical supervisor and mentors students and professionals with their clinical cases. He is a visiting faculty and lecturer for psychology and currently holds the position of Academic Counsellor at IGNOU regional center, Mumbai. He believes in co-creating safe spaces for people who need emotional support. He is very passionate about the cause of mental health and is founder at Jeevan Foundation, non-profit initiative focused on suicide prevention, and has trained 500+ Suicide Prevention Gatekeepers, he runs a free volunteer email service known as ‘Healing eMails’ for suicide prevention and emotional support. He frequently engages in mental health advocacy through outreach programs to make mental health conversations accessible.
