Thank you for visiting APPA! This means that you might have an interest in philosophy which, if so, is fantastic. Philosophy is such an incredibly important subject. It is an ancient subject and the foundation of all rational inquiry.
Philosophy can dramatically improve our lives as well. By learning how to think philosophically we begin to see the world and ourselves differently and, as a result, we begin to see our problems and any challenges that we’re facing differently. With a philosophical outlook problems and challenges are usually conceived of as less severe, more tolerable, and more positively.
As a philosophical counsellor I will help you to think philosophically and I will do so by helping you to think critically. This is done largely through dialogue, by continually raising questions, and by considering different philosophers and/or philosophical concepts. While I have respect and admiration for Eastern philosophy my counselling is based upon Western philosophy and is inspired by Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and Nietzsche in particular.
I am certified in counselling from The American Philosophical Practitioners Association (APPA) and have an Honours BA in philosophy from The University of Waterloo, a MA in philosophy from Queen’s University, and a BEd from The University of Toronto. I also taught philosophy for many years at an online secondary school and wrote two secondary school philosophy textbooks.
Most recently, in 2024 I founded Sophia which is an online philosophical counselling service. Sophia gives people the opportunity to think clearly and more critically about their deepest thoughts and beliefs so that they can excel in life and successfully manage any difficulties.
Whether you are young, middle aged, or old philosophy has an intrinsic value that can benefit all of us and I encourage you to drop me a line. I look forward to hearing from you!
